Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1
Silver Class teacher is Rachel Buckeridge supported by a team of experienced Teaching Assistants.
The curriculum in Silver Class is based upon the Early Years Foundation Stage and the beginnings of the National Curriculum for the Key Stage One children. The children work from a personalised curriculum in each subject area.
The acquisition of language skills is a focus in Silver Class, learning how to communicate their needs with the support of PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and Makaton (signs and symbols to aid communication). Children develop their attention and communication skills through the Attention Autism programme. Communication and social interaction skills are developed through "touch and music" in our Tacpac programme. In Silver Class, the children are introduced to the school rules and learning how to accept other people and share.
Each child has their own work station and follows an individual schedule. There is an emphasis on developing play skills and learning through play. The children go out for trips and visits and have specialist teachers for Sports, Art and Music. Each child has up-to-date ICT equipment.
