Platinum Class teacher is Michael Bogg, supported by a team of three qualifed Teaching Assistants.
Within Platinum Class, the expectation is that the children will be working from a personalised curriculum in line with the National Curriculum . Each child works at their own level in each subject area and, if possible, will attend the mainstream school for part of their day, starting with an area of strength. The planning follows a creative curriculum with topics being followed over a term and, where appropriate, topics are linked to learning in Maths and English.
The children continue to have their own work stations and some follow their own schedule. The goal is that each child is aware of, and participates in, their own targets for learning. There is an expectation that, by the time the children reach Platinum Class, they will be able to follow the school rules, ask for help and will have achieved basic numeracy and literacy skills.
There is an emphasis on active learning so the children have access to up-to-date ICT equipment, go out for visits and have specialist teachers for Sports, Art and Music.
By the time a child leave the Margaret Coates Centre, it is our aim that they develop a positive attitude to themselves as learners, and feel that they are independent, valued individuals, who have learned to accept and respect others.
