policies

The school has a wide range of policies to cover the running of the school, from an administrative and ‘social’ point of view, as well as the curriculum.

These are available to be seen on request, although some notice may be required.

Admissions

The governors follow the Local Education Authority (L.E.A.) guidelines on admissions.

If the school is oversubscribed, priority is given to siblings, those with special educational needs and then those geographically closest to the school. The full policy can be viewed at the school.

Admissions to the Margaret Coates Centre are controlled by the L.E.A., and do not follow the same guidelines.

School Uniform

With the opening of the new primary school, the governors decided that, instead of being encouraged, children would be expected to wear a sweatshirt in the school colour of red.

As well as a red top, children should wear red or white polo-shirts, tee-shirts or blouses and dark grey or black trousers, shorts or skirts. Red summer dresses may be worn when the weather allows. All clothing, including shoes should be sensible.  Black, flat shoes should be worn.

We do not encourage pierced ears, but if your child has one, please make sure that they are small hoops or studs. Children will be expected to remove them for physical activities.

We have also introduced a standard P.E. kit in school.  Children from Year 1 onwards are expected to wear P.E. kit. Order forms for P.E. Kit can be obtained from the school office.

School Meals

We are lucky to have our own kitchen on the school site.

The staff there work hard to produce balanced meals for all children. Most health, medical or religious diets can be catered for.

Meals, at present, cost £1.85 per day, which can be paid for weekly, half-termly or termly, in advance. Please enquire at the school office for details.

We try to use as much locally sourced, organic food as possible.

Children sit on mixed aged tables where the older children are expected to aid and support the younger ones.

School Discipline Policy

Each school, by law, must have a discipline policy, which is also available for interested persons to see.

Although our aim is for the children at the school to be self-disciplined, this is not always feasible, especially with younger children. We have a number of schemes and rewards to encourage positive behaviour and, when things go wrong, means of trying to teach the child appropriate behaviour.

National Curriculum Results & Assessment

In a primary school children are formally assessed twice, once in Year 2 and again in Year 6. The school’s most recent results are listed below.

Children are, however, continually assessed by their teachers. This, known as ‘Teacher Assessment’, is by far the most accurate way of measuring your child’s progress, and the progress can be discussed at the termly Parent Consultation Sessions, or at other times by prior arrangement.
