Key Stage 1: Silver Class

Silver Class teacher is Emma Griffin supported by a team of three teaching assistants, Julie Lewis, Sharon Cuss and Jemma Russell.

In Key Stage 1, we create a very visual and practical learning environment, where children are encouraged to become independent learners and thinkers.  Within the classroom, children have their own schedules and work stations.  There is a creative use of our outdoor space, which is accessible as part of daily activites from the early years and Key Stage 1 curriculum.

Play is integral to learning and children with ASD are encouraged to develop their play skills with an adult alongside to encourage them and promote sharing. Independent play is used to reward activities achieved.  Music features highly throughout activites to promote learning and we have a specialist teacher who visits the centre every week. Silver Class has up to date ICT facilities, this can be a highly motivating area for children on the autistic spectrum.

Trips and birthday celebrations are a very important part of what we do.  We consider lunchtime to be a learning activity and therefore children are taught table manners, encouraged to try a variety of foods and helped to play with others.
